NEW YORK and CHICAGO, February 20, 2007
—McClatchy-Tribune Photos and Graphics Now Available Through LexisNexis

LexisNexis U.S., a leading provider of information and services solutions, today announced that it is enhancing its deep collection of global news, business and legal information with photos and graphics from McClatchy-Tribune Information Services (MCT).

"This addition complements the LexisNexis text archives from MCT. There are many rich graphics, illustrations, maps, charts and photos in this collection that our customers can now search, along with the corresponding text articles," said Dawn Conway, vice president of Licensing and Content for the U.S. Corporate Markets of LexisNexis. "Graphics are particularly powerful because they can provide unique insights and answers about something specific in a way that is evidentiary and explanatory - something text alone struggles to provide."

Jane Scholz, editor for McClatchy-Tribune Information Services said, "MCT is pleased to offer LexisNexis customers visuals from our extensive photo and graphics collections. We hope to bring additional value to their customers with access to different topics - whether it's a photo of a member of the Senate or a caricature of a news-making CEO."

The MCT photo collection includes images from MCT staff photographers, newspaper contributors, several Pulitzer Prize winners and experienced freelance photographers. MCT image topics include U.S. News, World News, Politics, Business, Entertainment, Fashion, Lifestyle, Sports, Travel and significant news events, such as elections and storm coverage.

The MCT graphics collection includes graphics, maps, charts, and illustrations from journalists in MCT's U.S. and European bureaus. MCT graphics topics include: U.S. News, World News, Business, Entertainment, Health, Science and Technology, Travel, Sports and Special Events, such as the Olympics and Oscars.

Conway added, "The way the photos and graphics will be presented to LexisNexis users is significant because it will allow the discovery and linking of visuals to other related information easier and allow researchers to find the right answers faster."

Several key features of image searching within LexisNexis will be surfaced to the user, including the commingling of images with traditional text search results, which supports a more complete view of a particular topic. Additionally, once a search is run the user will have the ability delineate between image and non-image results in two ways: 1) Via a new camera icon in the search results list designating clearly that the cite contains an image; 2) The addition of an "images" category, which is driven by LexisNexis SmartIndexing Technology™, allows the user to drill down within their search results and only view those results that have images.

For no additional charge, LexisNexis subscribers to Nexis® and lexis.com® can access MCT's photo collection. The graphics collection can be accessed separately for $6 per graphic; there is no charge to view a thumbnail. Each image is accompanied by a caption, author and other applicable information related to the image.
